The message of the mystics is clear that ‘we can’t find what we are looking for in this world.’ As what we are looking to experience is our own soul.
Rumi puts it this way: “I have lived on the lip
of insanity, wanting to know reasons, knocking on a door. It opens. I've been knocking from the inside.”
Yoganada states “By the practice of meditation, you will find that you are carrying within your heart a portable paradise.”
This is a tough pill to swallow, as I notice in my own life, that the light shines brightest in the darkness.
This means when life becomes more of a struggle or is filled with some uncertainty, that’s when I find the most powerful connection to the divine, to freedom and to bliss.
It’s like my ego self has to be reduced to ash, time and again for my light to become apparent.
This is such a mystery where we are told:
“When love beckons to you, follow him,
Though his ways are hard and steep.” ..
“And when he speaks to you believe in
him, Though his voice may shatter your dreams
as the north wind lays waste the garden.” …
“All these things shall love do unto you
that you may know the secrets of your
heart, and in that knowledge become a
fragment of Life’s heart.”
- Kahlil Gibran
There is a spiritual fire we have to walk through on this path of awakening, a fire which burns away all that is a false and temporary.
I remember in meditation once being shown symbolically, that we where like a snake constantly shedding its skin. And we suffer in our holding onto that which we are shedding.
There is a jewel in the heart of the lotus of our life, stillness & compassion are two medicines which reveal it to us. That show us that home can be found where we already are.
