What is waiting to emerge from you ?

When Rumi in his poem ‘The guest house,’ talks about welcoming problems in life, can we really hear what he tells us:

“if … a crowd of sorrows (comes),

who violently sweep your house

empty of its furniture,

still, treat each guest honorably.

He may be clearing you out

for some new delight.”

Here is a blog about forest fires:

“If older trees die and younger trees aren't there to replace them, the balance of the forest is thrown off. Forest fires clear much of this dry underbrush, giving new trees and plants an opportunity to get the necessary sunlight and room to grow.”

When we become one with life we see this understanding everywhere.

That our letting the old fall away is essential for letting the new in.

Which is why Lao Tsu reminds us:

“Life is a series of natural and spontaneous changes. Don't resist them; that only creates sorrow. Let reality be reality. Let things flow naturally forward ... “

If we can only find inner peace and happiness during times of growth we miss - understand the purpose of life and evolution. Every storm and every gentle sunrise has the same calm centre, we just have to become still and see.

As Rumis invitation suggests ‘can we welcome it all’ understanding it’s all part of the same process. That the death of the old in necessary for the birth of the new.

It’s natural to go through a grieving process of that which we once where, as we sometimes painfully shed that skin ready to be born again. But at some point we have to say yes, ok, I open to the birth of the new.

The greatest gift I believe for this is finally relaxing into the emptiness of being and listening deeply for what wants to emerge. Asking life ‘how can I serve you, what is my calling?’
